Issue
The isolation of seniors and the presence of individuals with limited access to shopping.
As Japan experiences declining birthrates and an aging population, senior isolation has become a serious issue. In housing complexes, elderly residents are particularly vulnerable to isolation, and the problem of “shopping difficulties” among those struggling to purchase daily necessities has also emerged.
Approach
Implementation of resident-led community exchange programs and a nationwide expansion alliance.
We proposed a resident-led initiative to revitalize senior communities, organizing participatory events such as monitoring patrols and group purchasing of daily necessities. To foster organic interactions, the initiative is managed by coordinators selected from among the residents. Additionally, we collaborated with B Corporation, the largest domestic distributor, to propose the establishment of stores providing essential goods.
