Issue
How to respond to the diverse changes in the external environment surrounding convenience stores.
Amid diverse changes in the external environment, such as declining local populations, a reduction in workforce numbers, and rising material costs driven by the Olympics, the population per convenience store is projected to decrease by nearly half. In response, a shift is required from the traditional “quantity-focused” store expansion strategy to a “quality-focused” approach.
Approach
Calculate the potential for store openings based on regional segments and develop a practical store expansion policy.
Using two axes, “store coverage rate” and “store growth rate” in densely populated areas, we classified all 47 prefectures in Japan into four groups. By presenting store expansion policies tailored to regional segmentation, we have enabled more precise calculations of potential store openings compared to traditional methods.
