Project for Addressing Depression as a Societal Challenge.
- GOOD HEALTH AND
WELL-BEING - REDUCED INEQUALITIES
Issue
Many employees who take leave due to depression experience a relapse after returning to work and end up taking leave again.
In Japan, approximately 60% of the 4 million people suffering from depression are employed. Since the likelihood of relapse increases with each recurrence, addressing the return-to-work process for employees on leave due to depression is a critical issue for companies. One key factor contributing to this challenge is the lack of information sharing among multiple stakeholders, such as psychiatrists and return-to-work facilities. This prevents treating physicians from gaining a clear understanding of the workplace environment, resulting in return-to-work decisions being made without a comprehensive view.
Approach
Leveraging IT technology to enable seamless collaboration among multiple stakeholders.
e-solutions, in collaboration with major domestic telecommunications provider A, aimed to achieve “connected healthcare” through IT. Together, they developed workflows and demonstration plans involving simulated patients with various case scenarios. To supplement the expertise required for depression and return-to-work support, they formed a consortium including universities, academic societies, and hospitals.
